Toss the GOOFY one-wire alternator in the trash, where it belongs, and get an original-type 3-wire Delco 10SI, and connect it like this:

If you'd like an "idiot light", simply OMIT the diode, and wire an indicator lamp with a #194 bulb, or a bulf of equivalent current draw into the SAME WIRE. The diode and the #194 lamp are direct substitutes for each other.

NOTE...

SOME "one-wire" alternators have the #1 and #2 terminals, shown in the photo, accessable, and functional.

In that case, you can retain the alternator you have, and connect the circuit to it's #1 "switched excite" terminal, and it will then begine charging at startup, with NO NEED to "GOOSE" the engine.
