Yep, the dealer is the deciding factor alright. I think John Deere makes some mighty fine products, but the local dealer service department I don't care for, their service manager is this overweight woman who is pretty lazy and always makes accusations of us messing something up that they are working on to try and get out of their mechanics mistakes, they got a bunch of young guys barely out of high school in there and they are not very good mechanics, I had to pay for some of their mistakes. From my experiences with John Deere on a lawn tractor and a lawnsweeper, I would hesitate to buy anything more from them. Case IH, they have my tractor right now as a matter of fact, their service department is alot better, the people are more friendly, and I got friends behind the parts counter, so I am pretty happy with them and feel welcomed. Kinda funny how some folks are so stuck on a certain brand, I guess since I have worked on other peoples farms and I have driven alot of different brands, I have formed an appreciation for them all. I know a family that everything they have is John Deere, and it actually surprised everyone that back last year they purchased a CASE skidsteer when John Deere offers them, perhaps they are getting sick of the JD dealer too?. I guess I am kinda lucky because I got a Massey Furgueson dealer about 3 miles away, Case IH and John Deere are about 8 miles away, and an Agco/Zetor Dealer about 10 miles away.
