rubbing alcohol and a pipe cleaner works better( no distilate residue) you can put rtv in there but you have to go all the way around and then squeeze it out with the gasket-( going around it like you would with a piston ring). put a little oil on the gasket and lightly tighten the housing down, but not to tight--its just to get a level-square gasket. let it dry a couple hours and then tighten it to specs. no more gasket problems...
