Is the noise at all speeds, or moreso at one particular rpm? Is it at the front or rear of the engine? Could it be loose flywheel / clutch department mounting bolts? Is the noise the same with the clutch depressed? How many hours since an overhaul? Could be pistons getting sloppy & out of shape in the bores-- excessive taper or that sort of thing. What happens if you pull a plug wire or two? does the knock get worse-- better? Try to isolate where the noise is coming from.
