The six series gas motors did use a 58 tooth gear: four more than the nine series. The layouts are the same. I suppose the pitch of the teeth is much larger and consequently the pitch diameter is also larger on the nine series. I consider you to be the "primo" authority on this board for '40 thru '60 IH internals and I am surprised that you are asking questions instead of giving answers. I am also surprised that you weren't aware of the reverse rotation of the distributor. I thought all of us with just a passing knowledge of gas-start diesels knew this.
