Never had a 9,600 or 650 on the place. Now on the 6 264 and 281 diesel its a different story. The cams are on same side of engine for gas and diesel. The reason they turn the pump and distributor different between gas and diesel is that on gas the crank gear drives cam gear then distributor or hyd. pump drive gear, On diesel crank gear drives idler gear, idler drives cam,cam drives dist. or hyd. pump drive. Was in my head for some reason that 9 series gas used a extra gear in front somewhere. Need to get a W9 parts book.
