I like the question and would like to see more of these. This subject is the reason why I have parts books of tractors that I do not own. For instance, I have a 656 book but I doubt if I will ever own the tractor. I assume there must be alot of 300, 330, 340, 350, 460, 504, 606, and others that could use parts from that tractor. The parts could be direct replacements or slightly different to improve operating characteristics for a special application. I did a bunch of gear swapping in a SMTA and now have a tractor with a top speed of 11 mph. 1st gear, low range is around .5 mph at rated rpm.

Getting back to your question, I doubt if a 504 motor(C153) will fit easily into a C. Although the motor uses many of the parts from a C and SC parts book, it is cast with a flange that bolts up to the H derived tractors.
