Difference in air cleaners?

I've seen two types of air cleaners for H's. One is the type I have with a little dome on it, no jar. The other has a little jar on it. Well, I have the picutre of my Grandfather's M and he has a jar. I have the one without the jar on my H. So, what's the difference between the two? Is one better than the other? The only reason I would want the jar is to match my grandfather's tractor.
