I have looked through my manuals and parts book, and I cannot find any mention of what the gears are made out of. So, I'm no help there, but I am curious, what are you doing where the gear material makes a difference ? You can put stepped head pistons in and use any head. The dome on the IH "firecrater" pistons is only 21 ccs. The cylinder volume, not counting the head, is roughly 650 ccs. If you are just putting in stepped head pistons, you could be looking at something under a 3% increase in compression ratio. If you are going to all that trouble, why not use new parts ? This site has reasonably priced piston and sleeve kits, that I hear are decent quality. Greg
