300u starter

I just put a new starter drive and brushes in the starter on my 300u. The gears were chewed up on the old starter drive.
I have started it about 3 times and all worked well. This morning it was between 5 and 10 degrees below and I went to start the tractor. On the first two times, the starter drive would not engage, the starter just spun. On the third try, it grabbed and the tractor fired up.
Is there break in on a new starter drive? Is it the spring on the new starter drive? Should I let it go or do something, and if I should do something what are your suggestions.
I primarily use the tractor for throwing snow so it is coming into season.
