i have a couple 12v letter series. when we did the conversion years ago we used early 1960's chevrolet generators. they are the exact size of the 6v delcos. if you have a shop that rebuilds starters nearby see if they can modify the 6v to 12. my rebuilders always wants the v-reg with the generator when he rebuilds. he checks to make sure everthing is working. i have had several bad brand new v-regs, and it saved some time pullin my hair out.
