You have to remove the hood and gas tank to get in there. It's not a huge deal, just the fuel line, four bolts across the back, and two into the radiator core supports in front.

If it's got an 8-volt battery, it's probably still got the original generator. It really should have a 6-volt battery. That's all a Cub needs. The 8-volt battery is there to mask the real problem, which is probably dirty or inadequate battery cables.

Those old tractors have a cutout instead of a voltage regulator for the charging system, if it's still original. The light switch controls the charge rate. From being turned all the way to the left, first position is low charge, second is high charge, third is dim lights, fourth is bright lights. Make sure it's really not charging before you tear into the system.
