I got no problem converting a mag to a battery powered external coil ignition, youre simply still using the points to make n break the external coil current HOWEVER I do question whether or not the mfd rating of the condensor ought to be changed (to one used in regular coil ignitions) ??????? The external coil likely has a different inductance and draws more amps then the mags coil by which its condensor may be rated different buttttttttttttttt if it works and the points arent failing prematurely GO FOR IT........ If an inspection of the points indicates more pitting towards one side versus the other and/or the points arent lasting long, you may wanna buy a condensor for the regular coil ignition.
