Yeah , Remember that it's only a 20 amp gauge and that alternator puts out an excess of 20 amps so the gauge will peg till the battery is charged back up , usually within a couple minutes . Seems to me that if the battery is top notch that you shouldn't have 4 amps going into it all the time but you may not have run it long enough . It definently shouldn't discharge when the lights are on . Like the others said make sure the belts tight and in the right spot in the groove . A multi meter is pretty cheap so you might want to buy one . Good luck . ...Randy
