Do you have a link to that wiring diagram? I looked on Bob's website (http://albums.photo.epson.com/j/AlbumIndex?u=4001561&a=30065733&f=0) and don't see anything that matches your description. The 3rd and 4th positions on the switch are supposed to power the lights. The fact that the generator motors means that somehow with the switch in this position you have connected the battery directly to the generator. Without the generator working, the battery terminal on the regulator should be isolated from the generator itself. Do the lights work? They should come on with the battery. Does the ammeter show current draw with the lights on? Suspect a wiring error, but will need to look at how its supposed to be wired to see what would give the symptoms you describe. Good luck, Keith

Oil Bath Air Filters - by Chris Pratt. Some of us grew up thinking that an air filter was a paper thing that allowed air to pass while trapping dirt particles of a particles of a certain size. What a surprise to open up your first old tractor's air filter case and find a can that appears to be filled with the scrap metal swept from around a machine shop metal lathe. To top that off, you have a cup with oil in it ("why would you want to lubricate your carburetor?"). On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract.
