Allan, the reason I use oil is because the shaveings float on the oil and if you have it close to TDC and but just down a little the shaveing come out first and will never make it down to the bottom, unless of course you wait hours before turning the engine over. I got that from a retired machine shop guy that told me never use air as it will push the shaveing down the sides of the piston and in and around the rings
