There should be a single notch on the crankshaft pulley, and a pointer on the front cover of the engine. That's TDC on #1 cylinder, but that could be TDC on the exhaust stroke or TDC on the compression stroke. IIRC, it's the single notch. There may also be a double notch, which is for checking advance with the engine running. Hopefully someone will correct me if I'm wrong. The easiest way to find TDC is to remove #1 spark plug, put your thumb over the spark plug hole, and slowly rotate the engine until air starts whistling out around your thumb. Align the mark, and you're at TDC. HOWEVER, if you marked everything, made sure nothing fell apart, and didn't rotate the engine while you had the mag off, you should be able to put it right back on, and the tractor will start and run just like it did before.
