Whenever I have an oil pump apart, I pack it full of engine assembly grease. On rebuilt engines, I prelube them using an old metal tank that holds a couple gallons of oil. It has an air fitting brazed to the top, and a hose coming off of the top that screws into one of the main oil gallery holes. I use a regulator to keep the air pressure down around 40 psi. Once I have done all of this, I install a mechanical guage into the oil gallery plug, crank it for a while to bleed to fuel system, start it up, and I always have full pressure within two seconds.
