Update on Old and the Ice Storm

Posted by David Kronwall on January 18, 2007 at 16:32:23 from (64.201.65.22):

Just got off the phone to Old. He and his family are hanging in there, waiting on the power company to restore electricity. He said they cannot tell him exactly when that will be. They just have to wait.

I asked him what he needed...how might his friends from YT help him out. The only thing he mentioned was a wiring diagram for his Kohler generator (he didn't know the model).

Apparently he got the 110V side of the generator to operate, but cannot get the 220V side to work. If he could get that, he could get his well running, and maybe not have to carry water to the stock in 5-gallon buckets. The 110V is powering a hot plate (warm food finally) and the refrigerator. He's keeping the back half of the house warm with a propane heater.

He said the generator is an old model and is powered by a flathead 4-cylinder engine. Said it looks like a Ford tractor engine sitting there.

Old also said he is getting a bad case of computer withdrawal, not being able to get on YT. He also said it was nice to know his friends were thinking about him. I told him I'd pass that along.

I know Keith is sitting out in Oregon, wishing he were closer to lend a helping hand. I feel the same way, and I told Old that (I'm in WI). It's not THAT far, but a good day away. Rich seems to be in good spirits, and he seems pretty calm about the whole situation. I have a feeling that's his style.

So, if anyone knows or has the generator information Old needs, let us know here and we'll figure out how to get it to him. He'll need a little roofing help (mobile home) and maybe some plumbing help too, but not yet. Hey Jimmy King, what do you know about roofs and plumbing?

That's all I know. Thanks, Keith, for helping me get in touch with Rich. David
