48 Farmall M starter problems

I have a "48 Farmall M that has long been converted to 12v. The issue Im having is this: every now and then the starter seems to bind up on the flywheel so that the starter wont turn over. loosening the two bolts that hold the starter to the block and giving the starter a quick tap, then re-tightening, seems to so the trick.... until the next time it binds.

Any ideas on this?
