Oh boy... Sounds like you got hooked by "pwetty wed twaktor" and ended up with a basket case... The function of the lever on the left hand side of the tractor should be obvious if you pull it while the tractor is moving. It's a two-speed powershift called a Torque Amplifier, or TA. It is NOT a so-called "weak point" on the tractor, IF it is used properly. If the tractor doesn't downshift when you pull the TA lever, the TA is out too. With all the other problems the tractor has, figure on about $5000 to have them fixed. You can't do it yourself unless you have access to a shop with proper splitting stands and overhead hoists capable of lifting several tons. This tractor is WAY too heavy for a home shop mechanic to do any major work on.
