John Im NOT any authority on the many different types of Voltage Regulators used on Farmalls, Bob M may well have the EXACT answer youre looking for, I dont have any specs or data laying around. That being said (Im an attorney I love disclaimers lol) heres some general things Ive long observed relative to your question: (Sure that 1 isnt an L ????, I think its the L or LOAD terminal, see below) )

MOST 3 terminal Voltage Regulators (BAT ARM/GEN FLD) have all 3 terminals side by side.

MANY 4 terminal (BAT ARM/GEN FLD LOAD) Voltage Regulators have the BAT FLD LOAD terminals all together side by side while the ARM/GEN terminal is off to one side or the bottom all by itself.

When they used the 4 terminal VR's, loads like lights and ignition etc were fed voltage from the VR's LOAD terminal while if they used 3 terminal VR's teh saem were fed voltage from the ammeters Load side terminal.

MANY older tractors didnt use a full fledged 3 or 4 terminal VR but instead only a 2 terminal Cutout Relay (BAT GEN) and MOST of them were for 3 brush generators HOWEVER I have seen the older 3 brush gennys that still used a full fledged 3 or 4 terminal VR.

BOTTOM LINE regardless if you have a 2 or 3 brush genny and regardless if the tracotr was originally equipped with a simple 2 terminal Cutout Relay or a 3 or even a 4 terminal VR, if that VR you have is suitable for your ground (Pos or Neg) I can tell you how to wire it up to make it work !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My "Best Guess" FWIW is on that VR you have its a 4 terminal and the 3 together are BAT FLD and the other one what I call L or LOAD while the unmarked terminal all by itself is the ARM/GEN terminal, if so its wired as follows:

BAT to load (NOT battery/starter) side of ammeter....

FLD to gennys Field post

L (LOAD) feeds voltage up to the dash to its Ignition and Lights BAT input terminals. (Maybe thats the 1 terminal???)

Unmarked Terminal (off on side or bottom by itself) wires to the gennys ARM post.

If this is incorrect hopefully Bob or Bob M or Hal or Jim can provide the correct answer, I gave it my best shot
