You don't have to pull the crank to replace the rear main oil seal but you do have to split the tractor. The rear main is a lip seal, and is a round circle and it sets in a retainer, that is bolted on the back of the engine block. You must remove the engine,clutch, and flywheel then remove the bearing retainer. As for the gear box, you already have the engine out its time for some exploritory sergery. Just a guess but the front cluster bearing sounds like a suspect to to me. Don't make much difference though has to be looked at. Steering,,not a expert still working on my first Cub restoration but I don't see too much for adjusting in the shop manual. There is some shims at the tie rod end of the steering arm but won't help if the slop is in the gear.
