DJL: When IH came out with 88 series, I declared that was the end of IH tractors already on the downhill, that was in 1981. I said then that fan shaft through the radiator with a suck fan out would be a nightmare. I drove one of these back then, and I couldn't see any shifting improvment over 86 series. I do know some of the results of my prediction, however that was the last time I was ever in an 88 series tractor, thus I have no idea how they stood the test of time. We do know IH didn't, and we know CaseIH did not keep the suck fan. I'm sure there are folks around with more 88 experience than I.

After two summers of having to park my old 1964 model 4000 gas 4 cyl. on a hill just in case the 6 volt system, for whatever reason, would not crank her, I decided to try the 12 volt conversion. After some research of convert or not, I decided to go ahead, the main reason being that this tractor was a working tractor, not a show tractor (yet).
