Okay, first the good news. My F-12 drives around perfect, I took it outside the school shop Monday and drove it around for about 15 minutes, it ran perfect that day, and it was burning nice and clear. Now the bad news. Than on Tuesday when i started it, it made black smoke like the diesal engine it isnt. I tried adjusting the carb needle back and forth and to no success. After it had been running about 10 minutes i drove it around for about 20 minutes and eventually the black smoke thinned out and was gone. On Wednesday it started making black smoke again as soon as i started it. I drove it outside to let it sit out back and run for awhile. When i moved the throttle though it just killed and wouldn't start again. Also i noticed that the manifold had cracked at the bottom of the center on the exaust area. Than on Thursday i had to take the sparkplugs out and blow out the cylinders to get it to start. Than when it did it still made black smoke. I tried adjusting the carb again and it still didn't help. The only reason i can think of for the black smoke is carbon buildup. Anybody got any other ideas? Thanks for the help..............JJ

On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract.
