THANK YOU ALL for the quick and thoughtful replies... I am not running any tests today on the ol'red machine as it very cold out with a bad wind chill factor..But I will be,I have copied off your replies. The generator belt is smaller in length and narrower than the original,I replaced it years ago when mowing the field, and it was the nearest size I could find quickly. I believe the ammeter is working ok,sometimes it will read charging strongly, but usually it runs on slight discharge. More questions, to Polarize the Generator,do you do this with the tractor stopped or running?(as you can tell I am not really that experiienced at this stuff.)? Under temporalily ground the Gens Field post to case,I know where that connection is but do you do it with a short wire to the tractor or ? the case of the voltage regulator is plastic.I replaced that a while back. El Toro,I can't seem to find that website of Bob M's trouble shooting guide, any further directions....? Once again thankyou all, truly helpful,I will be running some tests and checking connections once it is not so down right biting outside.I have a meter and will be putting to use ,hopefully soon.

Originally the company was called the Cleveland Motor Plow Company which began in 1912, then the Cleveland Tractor Company (1917) and finally Cletrac.
