When I did much the same to mine I didn't have to replace the input shaft and its gear or the constant mesh gear on the lower shaft, just the fourth/fifth slider. But I did replace the bearings at the front of both shafts. That change in alignment is enough to make the constant mesh gear whine pretty loudly in every gear except fifth. Fifth is silent. I've decided to live with it. All the rest of the gears look like they should have been changed, and when I have to, I will. On the other hand, you said that when you mash the clutch the noise stops. Does it whine sitting still, not just when moving? That may mean that it's bad enough to warrant another look. Somebody who knows more than I should be along to say. Good luck, Wm
