Tom, See you are getting info for the manifold. It's been polished but not blasted, knocked off all the horrible original casting flaws and scale. So there is rust in the pores. So bead blast or sand blast to get that out. I used to have access to shot peening which really is the cat's meow, relieves all stresses and makes for ten lifetimes wear. Looks so good you HATE to paint it.
No paint on a manifold is forever. But get the rust out and you are way ahead of the game.
Use a 'metal prep'on the pipe as it's not cast. Polish as desired priot to that.
