Super A trannys have straight-cut gears, which are inherently noisy. Mine howls a lot in reverse, and less in forward gears. If you look through the fill hole with a flashlight, you can see the rough condition of the gears. I think the noise is normal, and plan to do nothing about it. Change the gear oil in the tranny - if it's all full of metal filings, then something might be wrong. My so-called 'pressure cooling system' (I have a '49 Super A) never gets very hot, or builds pressure. I'm surprised your engine gets so hot on a cool day. Perhaps your radiator is mostly plugged? If your engine is severly worn, that won't help the cooling problems, as the engine is burning more fuel in a vain attempt to do the same amount of work. The result is more heat. If you suspect the radiator, I'd get it rodded out and resealed, and flush out the engine block as best you can. Thermosiphon systems are overengineered, as they run at low or no pressure, and the Super A should have no overheating problems if things are in reasonably good shape. Steve
