784 answer I found here http://www.ytmag.com/farmall/messages/211042.html "Theyre all great tractors, but Theyre in sort of a different league. I think the horsepower is similar, but the 784 will have a 4 cyl diesel and the others will have a 6 cyl gas or diesel. That will make a Huge difference even though they are rated the same. A 6 will outwork a 4 cylinder every time. Fuel comsumption will be a little better with the 4 I think. The 656 666 686 is a much bigger sized tractor with a variety of transmissions. You could get hydros on the 656. Also the price difference will be pretty big. A decent 656 diesel can go for 4-5k whereas a decent 784 can go for 7 up to 12k. The 784 is a much better loader and chore tractor, especially if it has the shuttle shift. Now they did actually make a utility version of the 656. Essentially in the same class as the 784 but with the 6 cyl motor. Not as many nice ammenities but a good tractor. I know its a lot of things to look at but hope this helps." P.S. our 2500 is shuttle shifter -its almost a must for front end loader work! 3088 I found here along with a ton of other tractors hp ratings. http://216.239.51.104/search?q=cache:JZk9H5cJJzkJ:tractortestlab.unl.edu/80-89.pdf+3088+IHC+horsepower&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=2&gl=us
