The 686 did have a shuttle option but yet to find one ordered with it. the 6xx series is basically a M updated with modern components - the old 5 speed trans plus a TA, Hydro, shuttle. All updated to handle 70 pto hp. The 6xx is generally a Row crop tractor or utility (utility is not that common). You can put front monted cultivators on this tractor. 6cyl motor Gas and Several Diesel engin's 282, 310, 312. Proven very reliable tractor with a long long history. The 784 will have a 4 speed rande trans plys high/low/reverse trans. the std 8F & 4R - 16F & 8R with TA - also came with a shuttle - don't think it had a hydro version. This tractor turned out to be one of the better IH models. Both really good tractors, the 6xx's 3 point hitch will lift more but the 784 should have a dual 540/1000 pto setup. The 6xx might have a 1 or 2 hp on the 784 - basically the same hp. 6xx is a couple of thousand pounds heaver.
