No there is no dipstick. Did you fill it to the top of the resevoir? It should be filled so it just touches the neck of the tube sitting inside the fill plug. Get all the trapped air out first and if it is too full it might go down. Next time you check the hydraulic filter a good thing is to check the two mesh screen filters. These are the suction filter in the reservoir and the small one in the draft control valve.
