I used a combo of techniques to remove rust and paint on an H and a 9N. The wire brush works well in places that sand could become imbeded or contaminated. A portable sandblaster (5hp, 20gal) will clean the grill like you wouldn't believe (just try getting behind the horizontal bars!), and for parts like lights, threaded rods, and springs. Finally, oven cleaner will melt paint and grease. I used a small Black&Decker orbital sander on the hood. You can get real tired of using the same method, so mix it up.
