Rockford clutch suffix J

Figured out the J suffix all by myself but now I am trying to learn a little about the Rockford what made it better or worse? Dad mentioned that they seemed a bit jumpy and this Super M seems to hold that title and extra tips for adjustment...Just wondering outloud about this I pulled the water cover off the side of the block to replace it and never really paid much attention to the number till now...
