I hated to get into this, but I went and checked both my M and 400 and they are as you say. The M with original carb has only a square headed drain plug and weep hole. The 400 has the weep hole, the round nut with a slot and drain cock on it. I also cheked the IT manual for each and am getting conflicting info from those. It does show the round slotted nut in it for the M, but mine doesn't have it.
