Super M or M? Help please

Let me first say that I know very little about tractors but I have restored a few old jeeps and know my way around a wrench. I recently inherited a farmall M from my grandpa. The history is foggy but it appears he bought it in the mid 70s at an auction. He did nothing but drive it since then. It has live hydros via a pump mounted between the distributer and the timing cover. It also has a cable actuated pull knob that puts it in low range (torque amplifier?) It does not appear that these were added later (I am not sure though) because of the nicely cast bracket that holds the knob and the hydro control. My "Farmall buddy" told me it was a '54 Super MTA but after running serial numbers it says it is a 1951. The plate reads M
275906 X 1 There is 3 small punches by the "M" Does this mean that it was bored out? Please help me figure out what this thing is so that I can find parts for the restoration. Thanks
