I doubt that you could go wrong with copper. Seems like I read some where if the voltage regulator doesn't work correctly then you can toast the generator. I do know I ran a Cub Cadet for a while with the voltage regulator not working properly. Finally got a new one, and lo and behold a couple of months later I was rebuilding the generator. Maybe just a coincidence, maybe not ......
