Dave, you will get a variety of recommendations on the oil I think. Myself I use Kendall HD SAE 30 weight oil in all my Farmalls gas and diesel. I have never had any oil related problems and have used this for more than 30 years in some of them. I run a 50/50 mix on anti-freeze. I mix it myself, just can't seem to buy pre mixed. It is almost as high as the pure stuff.
