After 50+ years of use the large ends will tend to get a bit egg shaped. This makes proper clamping of the bearing difficult. Gas rods are not as critical as diesel rods but they should be measureed by a machinist. I just ovehauled a Super H and the big ends were way out of round. To fix them the machinist cuts a little metal from the mating surfaces of the rod cap and rod and then rehones the bore to a perfect circle to original specs. Like I said you can most likelly get by not doing it with low rpm gas engines but why take the risk of spinning a bearing and the machine shop has to install and fit the pin bushings anyways. A bit of advice don't try to install the pin bushings your self. They have to be fitted to the piston pin and honed parall to the rod using a special machine.
