Dave, I'd take my hat off to anybody that could get that switch apart at the bottom and then back together and working. The body of it looks like potmetal but doesn't seem as brittle. If you don't have the remnant of the broken-off terminal to solder back in place, you could try fabbing up something that you could solder, or perhaps screw, to what's left of the terminal on the bottom of the switch. If you are able to screw it on, I'd throw a touch of solder on that joint. Any soldering you do, keep the switch button down, to keep your soldering heat from flowing all through the guts of the switch. Worst you would do is give the coup de grace to a switch that's already borderline. I'm sure the household light switch is kinda bulky, gommy and looks out of place. If you really don't want to spring for the replacement, you could make a lot neater looking job with a simple toggle switch to mount on the bracket in place of the old one that would be a lot more discreet.
