Well I have nothing to lose by trying to fix it, I guess, but for now I will try a different alternative. I have the alternator wiring mostly done but it is dinner time so taking a break. Have to splice in the diode and hook her to the ammeter. Gonna be a bummer if this doesn't work AND I have a gut hunch that she will still run rough and stall a lot. I still think the distributor has "issues" and if it isn't there then maybe a (gulp!) carburetor problem needs to be considered (?). I've got two more tractors waiting in the wings, it would sure be a boost to my morale if I could get this one squared around!
