It is supposed to do that. A telling factor is voltage with it running at 3/4 throttle, and charging as described, put a volt meter across the battery. If it reads 14.2 to 14.6 volts, it is probably great. If it is in the 14.7 and above range, the regulator voltage is set high. This can be adjusted, but if under warrantee, I would take it back. The amp meter should go back to +4 or5 amps when an hour of operation has passed JimN
