IH carb stuff

My 301 keeps running lean. I don't think I have the right carb. It is clean and the float is right. I can turn the load screw all the way out and even take it out and it still won't smoke any even with the throttle wide open. I think it is a 460 carb. I have heard that you can replace and drill out stuff. I have heard the terms metering stem, venturi etc. I have no idea what any of this stuff is. Could someone send me a picture or explain what are all these jets and stuff called in the carb?
