The MD had two 6 volt batteries connected in series to make a 12 volt system. One was under the tank like the regular M, the other was on RH side of the seat support. When I was growing up on the farm, that is the way the MD we had was set up. I think it was around a 1950 model. Later models may have had a different setup. I think the battery box beside the seat was a little different than the one under the tank, but not sure. I believe you can take a regular M box of the under the tank variety and modify it to fit beside the seat. I think the only difference would the the hold down system for the box.
