15 years ago, I sent both the starters for my SA and 130 off to a rebuilder. The SA starter came home with a clutch type drive, and 130 starter with a bendix starter drive. The 130 starter wouldn't engage as the ring gear was a bit rough. I switched starters to see if the clutch drive would make a difference. It worked perfect. I called the rebuilder to see why one starter came home with clutch drive and the other a bendix. He said, "I only had one bendix in stock, thus I called CaseIH down the street, and they sent over that clutch drive. It will probably work." I said, "it's the only one that will work on my 130, plus it works smoother on the SA. I want clutch drives on both starters."
I went to CaseIH, now bear in mind this CaseIH dealer had a parts guy, probably one of the best in the business, one of those 1 in 100 parts guys. He told me he hadn't sold a bendix in many years, and that these clutch drives worked so much smoother especially if the old Farmall has been converted to 12 volt. That was 1992, and my 130 has been working ever since with the clutch drive starter and that same rough looking ring gear. It is the tractor I run all winter, thus it sees the hard starts. In 2001 I installed a new clutch kit, never gave any thought to the ring gear, why would I, it works so well. You may have to go to IH for the clutch drive. In 1992, they were the only supplier in my area, however a lot may have changed since then.
