I just put a new screen in my MTA grill. It sounds like you are talking about the little tabs that are actually on the grill piece, not the clips that come with the screen. 2 of mine broke when I tried to bend them back down also. I just used some small wire and looped it around the pieces that the clips were originally spotwelded to, then twisted them tight on the back with a linesman pliers. It worked great and you can't see them from the front. OEM also sells the clips and screen. Don't mess with the clips though, they are a huge rip-off and you need a spotwelder to put them on.
