If you have the tall cap (about 3" high, also called triple baffle), current production caps have two vent holes near the center on top. Earlier style tall caps had just one hole in the center. Low style caps had the vents on the underside just inside the outer edge or a single hole in the center on top.
If your tractor has had an auxialry tank on it, the cap may have been replaced with a non-vented style. They used a vented cap on the second tank and the non-vented cap on the main tank. This caused fuel to be forced from the secondary tank to the main tank as fuel was used.
If someone has replaced the cap with one for an 86 series tractor, it will also be non-vented. Those tractors used a vent incorporated into the fuel sendor unit.
