John, like Hugh mentioned IH has used several different knotters over the years and there is lots of differences in them. If you could post or send a pic we could determine witch knotters are on it. The older McCormick Deering knotters have a stripper arm that could need adjusting or may need less tension on the bill hook, or even dull twine knive. The newer all twine knotters don't have a stripper and the bale itself pulls the twine from the hook as it leaves the bale chamber. If it has all twine knotters it should be tieing a bow knot. Again hook tension, dull twine knives or a rough spot somewhere could be causing it.
