The hole in the center of the filter housing goes accross to the hydraulic pump. Oil from the sump enters around the outside of the filter and passes through the filter or bypass to enter the pump.
The pickup tube is below the differential and PTO shaft. Oil is picked up from the bottom of the rear frame between the axles. There is also a seal between the rear frame and the clutch housing. The tractor has to be split to repace that seal. You could pull the PTO and inspect the back part of the oil pickup assembly. If you find no problems there, add about five gallons extra of Hy-Tran. If the split seal is leaking that should cure the air leak. If it does, just run it with the extra fluid.
