Mike, did you replace the oil pan yet? That is where most of the crud will be, that and on top of the head which shouln"t be too much there and isn"t critical to clean unless oil return holes are clogged up. I wouldn"t use anything liquid to loosen up the crud as on these engines, the oil filter only filters a percentage of the oil through a metering oriface, Not all of the oil going to the bearings. Get the crud loose, some of it will circulate through the engine. The only way to be sure is to pull the oil pan off and clean it out. When that crud settles out and sits in the bottom of the pan, it sets up like concrete and stays put.
